Warrant connects Ohlsen to bombing in Clayton
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
08/24/2009
A federal search warrant obtained by the Post-Dispatch connects a former Democratic campaign strategist to a bombing last year that injured a Clayton attorney.
About two months after the October bombing, federal law enforcement officials searched a downtown loft rented by Milton H. "Skip" Ohlsen III, seeking "evidence related to the planning, execution, and/or cover-up of the bombing in Clayton, Missouri, on Oct. 16, 2008." ...
Ohlsen is the former Democratic operative involved in the federal investigation into the failed 2004 Congressional campaign of Jeff Smith. Smith, now a state senator from St. Louis, and Steve Brown, a state representative from Clayton, have been involved in that federal inquiry, according to state government sources.
The FBI has said it will neither confirm nor deny an investigation involving Smith’s 2004 run for Congress against eventual winner Russ Carnahan. During that race, Carnahan filed a Federal Elections Commission complaint alleging the campaigns of Smith and Joan Barry skirted federal law by helping produce anonymous fliers that were critical of Carnahan.
FEC investigators determined Ohlsen was responsible for the fliers. Ohlsen told investigators he had numerous connections to the Smith campaign.
From former Springfield newspaper dude, Tony Messenger:
JEFFERSON CITY — State Rep. Steve Brown, D-Clayton will plead guilty in federal court today to a single count of conspiracy to obstruct justice, according to his attorney, Art Margulis.
The charge is related to Brown’s work on the 2004 Congressional campaign of Jeff Smith. In that campaign, Smith and 9 other challengers lost to Russ Carnahan, now a U.S. Congressman from the 3rd District. Brown and Smith were involved in the distribution of anonymous fliers criticizing Carnahan, according to an FEC complaint filed by Carnahan in 2004. ...
Now, it's the Republicans' turn to commit some crimes. Meanwhile, this quote from a commenter on the last story above, sums things up quite nicely:
You can’t swing a dead cat without hitting a crooked politician of either party.
Got that right.
If America doesn't wake up soon, and vote out EVERY incumbent - without regard to party affiliation - things are just going to get worse. And it won't be just because a few people yell at incumbents at health-care townhall meetings - that will be the LEAST of our worries.
