Political affiliation = domestic terrorist? Welcome to NewSpeak 2.0.
Hat tip to my colleague Tom Knapp for making sense of the MIAC controversy:If MIAC wants to encourage profiling on the basis of political affiliation, and if Missouri law enforcement wants to respond to that encouragement, let's make them pay the price.
Good point, one of many.
Now, on to the meat of why somebody thinks membership in a political party is tantamount to being a domestic insurgent:
It is not uncommon for militia members to display Constitutional Party, Campaign For Liberty, or Libertarian material. These members are usually supporters of former Presidential Candidate: Ron Paul, Chuck Baldwin, and Bob Barr.
Yikes! Who knew??? Someone call Homeland Security. [sarcasm switch now in "OFF" position]
Seriously, who would think along these lines? Should we start scrutinizing/harassing/phone-tapping/et ceteraizing the following:
FairTax supporters
NRA members
Pro-lifers
Pro-choicers
Proponents of drug legalization
Gun control advocates
Obama voters
McCain voters
Ralph Nader voters
Green Party members
People with "We homeschool our child" stickers on their minivans
Opponents of drug legalization
Seriously, folks... are we going to stand for having political beliefs used as a basis for unwarranted police scrutiny?
